Early Learning Center seeking Volunteers
The Early Learning Center needs volunteers for homework help, story time, and to teach weekly classes in arts & crafts, painting, or music. A background check is required for all volunteers. Call the Preschool for more information or to volunteer.
Much Candy Needed for Trunk or Treat on 10/19 & 10/21
Good Shepherd is participating in not one, but two Trunk or Treat activities this year. * 
WE NEED CANDY!.  There is a box (probably not big enough) in the narthex for your donations of bags and bags of candy.  Please be generous and bring lots of candy. **
* Oct. 19 at Lowe’s on South Street from 5-7 p.m. and Oct. 21 at Good Shepherd with our famous Haunted Hayride.
** I’m not exaggerating–we need a tremendous amount of candy.
Food Pantry also needs a few good people
Good Shepherd’s Food Pantry is seeking volunteers who have a heart for those in need. If you can spare 4-6 hours each month helping to fill food bags, receive prayer requests and pass them on to Pastor Bruce, maintain the catalogue of family size of those served, and to help them with lists of open jobs, then we have the spot for you.
Those who come for help are treated with the utmost respect and care; the goal is to fill the gap until they are able again to afford to feed their families.  See Bob Minor for more information.

Pastor’s Sunday Bible Class Topic
Starting August 13, this class will study the book of Proverbs. Class meets in the main classroom in Shepherd’s Hall after worship.

Voter’s meeting Sunday September 10
There will be a voter’s meeting for the Good Shepherd congregation on Sunday, September 10 in the sanctuary after worship. The main agenda item is the approval of the budget for next year. Copies will be available in the narthex; it is also posted on the Board of Directors’ bulletin board by the church office.
August Monthly Potluck this Thursday, August 17
All are welcome to the August Potluck in Shepherd’s Hall at 6 p.m. Bring a dish to share. A birthday sheet cake will be served after we sing “Happy Birthday” to with August birthdays. A short prayer time will follow the meal.
Sponsored by the Men’s and the Women’s Thursday Bible Studies, which meet Thursdays at 6 p.m. on weeks when there is no potluck.
Pocket Cross Ministry
Bob Minor has ordered 500 pocket crosses for people to hand out to those who need encouragement or prayer. He is looking for people to participate in this ministry. Talk to Bob for more information.
Singers Sought for Children’s Choir
If you’re between eight and fifteen years of age and like singing, Good Shepherd’s Children’s Choir wants you to join them in praising God. Talk to Ricky Hall or call the church office for more information.

Do you have piles of unwanted paper?
Community Credit Union is hosting three Shred Events in the area for free shredding of your unwanted forms, receipts, and documents. Registration is required and all paper must be free of staples, paper clips, string or rope, coins, binders, and other debris.

Altar Guild needs a few good people

The Altar Guild is a special ministry that serves the church by preparing the sacraments for communion. Betty Kogok, who has led the Guild for years, is stepping down and other members have moved away. This leaves us with openings to serve Good Shepherd in this ministry.

Monthly Potluck and Prayers Thursday, August 17
Since the first monthly potluck was well-attended and enjoyed by all, we’re doing it again, Join us for fellowship, sheetcake, birthday greetings for those with August birthdays, and prayer for all who need it. Bring a dish to share and meet us at 6 p.m. in Shepherd’s Hall.

AA Batteries for Pastor
We need lots of AA batteries for the headsets used during worship by Pastor, Bill Kaiser, and the children’s choir. If you have a package or more to spare, please bring them to church on your next visit.
A Big Thank You!
Thank you to all who helped with the Good Shepherd Community Unity Picnic on June 10. It was a lot of hard work, but the picnic was a great success.

Free Gospel Concert: Mikey Corey, Heidi Leigh, Red Honaker
Adult Information Class begins June 14
This class, led by Pastor Bruce, is for those who want to join Good Shepherd, those who want to learn about Lutheran beliefs and practices, and those who want to refresh their knowledge of the Lutheran Catechism and church history.
Clas time is 6:30 p.m. Location is the Sanctuary Meeting Room (go right as you enter the main doors.)

June 7 will be the last Zoom Bible Study for the summer. In Its place will be an Adult Information class in-person at Good Shepherd led by Pastor Bruce.

Food Pantry News
From December 2022 to March 2023, Good Shepherd’s Food Pantry handed out 293 bags of groceries to help 718 people. Those working with the pantry prayed with 305 people.

The Taco Dinner raised $900. Thank you to all who worked to provide the food and decortations.
Breakfast by the Sea Sunday April 16th
Join us after worship for breakfast by the Good Shepherd pond to commemorate Jesus’ feeding of his apostles after his resurrection. Meal includes fried fish, potatoes, grits, fruit, drinks, and baked goods.

Holy Week Worship
Maundy Thursday worship with Holy Communion will be April 6th at 6:30 p.m.
Good Friday Tenebrae worship will be April 7th at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Easter Sunrise Worship will be April 9th at 7:30 a.m. outside Shepherd’s Hall. Communion will be offered. Afterward will be Easter Breakfast in Shepherd’s Hall followed by an Easter Egg Hunt.
Traditional Easter Worship with Communion in the Sanctuary will be at 11 a.m.
Easter Lily Orders Due April 2nd
Cost is $10 per plant. Order forms are in the Narthex.
Need Items for Rummage Sale in September
Good Shepherd will hold a rummage sale (tentative date is Saturday, Sept. 16.) Please start bringing items to donate now; they will be stored until the sale. Clothing must be clean and in good condition; no furniture or extremely large items. Please be mindful of what is donatedl we want to raise funds and also bless our community.
Shepherd’s Hall Roof Update
The roof replacement and stucco work is complete. We still need help with funds for thid project. Will you prayerfully consider contributing to the project? The expense for both the roof anand stucco, jointly, has cost just under $65,000.
Evening Men’s Group Begins April 13
The newly-formed Men’s Group will be meeting Thursday nights at 6 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Library. The first meeting will be April 13th. Danny Wyatt is the group facilitator; call him for more information.
Easter Needs: Baked goods and easter candy
.Please bring wrapped Easter candy* and baked goods and desserts for the $Easter Breakfast and Egg Hunt on April 9th. The candy must be brought in by Palm Sunday (April 2nd) for egg-stuffing. Filled eggs must be brought in by April 8.
The baked goods may be left in Shepherd’s Hall before Sunrise Worship.
* Pastor requests the candy all be “good stuff.”
